My favorite athlete
When this title came to my eyes, I just can’t help thinking of a mother who does gymnastics in order to raise money for her son, a boy with leukemia. Yes, she is my favorite athlete, Chusovitina, a German gymnast.
Chusovitina was born on June 19th, 1975. In 1991, the 16-year-old Chusovitina achieved two golden medals and one silver medal for the Community of Independent States. Until now she has participated in five Olympics Games and she is the only woman who has even been in the Olympics for five times. In fact, after she took part in the Atlanta Olympic Games, she decided to retire from gymnastics and get married. Her life was supposed to be happy, however, in 2002, her son was diagnosed with leukemia and this brought the family into poor condition. In order to pay for the high medical expenses, she made her choice to go back to gymnastics. We all know that it is hard for a woman, especially in her thirties, to be trained under such pressure, but not for Chusovitina.For her, she is just a mother who needs to save her son. Just as she expresses herself: my son is my life, I won’t give it up until he gets better.He is my motive power.
