her it was a piece of a Delta H rocket that had been used to launch a satellite.
Many countries around the world have sent satellites into space. We need satellites to send and r 2 TV and radio signals, to report the weather and for many other things. But when they become old or they break down or we don’t need them anymore, we just leave them there. They become space junk.

around the Earth, and tens of millions of smaller objects too. They travel at around 7 kilometers a second. That’s fast! And it’s their speed that makes these pieces of space junk really dangerous. If one small piece of space junk hits something at high speed, it can do a lot of damage. L 4 , there haven’t been many collisions (撞). But in 2009, an old Russian satellite hit and d 5 an American satellite—and that created 2,000 new pieces of space junk!
Pieces of space junk re-enter the Earth’s atmosphere every day. But Lottie Williams is the o 6 person who has been hit. The piece that hit her was light, and the air in the atmosphere had slowed it down. Most space junk burns up and doesn’t reach the Earths s 7 . But in 2011, a metal ball 35 centimeters wide fell to Earth in Namibia, Africa. It made a hole in the ground 30 centimeters deep and over 3 meters wide. Lottie was lucky she wasn’t hit by that! D. Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答下列问题): ( 12分)
For many of us,the idea of a family is a lot narrower than it used to be.Today children go away to college, and take up jobs wherever chances seem greatest. So instead of growing up in a family with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins, many of us are truly connected only to our parents and brothers.
Many kids today know little of the lives of their relatives and don't care deeply about them. Whether we realize it or not,the feeling of being disconnected makes people feel lonely. \"People need to feel connected,\" says Joy Browne,a doctor in the U.S. \"And they will do it in the easiest ways.\" When family members aren't connected, what could be easier than forming a connection to famous people?
This isn't something unusual,of course.People cried when Mei Yanfang died in 2003.It's natural and in most ways harmless to feel that way,but that's unhealthy, because the relationships aren't two﹣way(相互的).
For that,we need to stay connected to our own families.Parents can help by telling their children stories about their grandparents, aunts and cousins so that children can know their latest activities and interests.
We can keep connected with our relatives by using technology. It's easy to send E﹣mail to granddad better yet.A week of relaxing vacation can be a great way to tie up family ties. And when a bad thing happens,no one can be as helpful as your relatives.Because no matter how much we cry for the famous people, they can't be there to cry for us. (1)Are we often connected to our relatives now?
(2)What makes people feel lonely?
(3)The relationships between the famous people and us aren't two﹣way, are they? (4)Why do parents tell children stories about the relatives? (5)How can we keep connected with our relatives?
(6)What do you think of keeping connected with your relatives? How do you connect with them?

C、Listen to the passage and tell whether the following statements are true or false.(判断下列句子是否符合你听到短文内容,符合的用“T”表示,不符合的用“F”表示)(5分) 11.Every dolphin has a name just like human beings.
12.Dolphins communicate with each other through sounds and body language. 13.Although dolphins live in groups, they play alone. 14.Dolphins help fishermen catch fish by sending signals.
15.Dolphins are not as smart as humans but more like cats and dogs. 【答案】
11.T 12.T 13.F 14.T 15.F 【原文】
Many people say dolphins are intelligent. They seem to be able to think, understand and learn things quickly. But are they as smart as humans, or are they more like cats and dogs?
Like humans, every dolphin has its own “name”. The name is a special whistle. Dolphins \"talk” to each other about a lot of things—such as their age, their feelings, and finding food. They use a system of sounds and body language to communicate. Understanding dolphin conversation is not easy for humans. No one speaks the dolphin language yet, but some scientists are trying to learn. Dolphins are social animals. They live in groups, and they often join others from different groups to play games and have fun—just like people. Scientists believe playing together is something only intelligent animals do.
Dolphins and humans both make plans for getting things they want. In the seas of southern Brazil for example, dolphins use an intelligent plan to get food. When there are fish near a boat, dolphins signal the fishermen to put their nets in the water. This way, the men can catch a lot of fish. Why
do dolphins help the men? They get to eat some of the fish that escape from the net.
D、Listen to the dialogue and complete the following sentences(听短文,完成下列内容,每空限填一词)
16.The more time the phone is in water, the more likely it is to be too damaged ________ ________.

20.When it’s time to take the phone out, you might be lucky and find it is ________ ________. 【答案】
16. to repair 17. right away 18. a chance 19. two days 20. working well 【原文】
Have you ever dropped your phone in water? If so, you are not alone—a third of phones are lost because of water damage. Today I’m going to tell you how you may be able to save a wet phone.
First, you must get the phone out of the water. If it’s important to realize that the more time it’s in water, the more likely it is to be too damaged to repair. So, don’t stand there shouting “Oh no!” Just save it from water immediately.
Next, you must turn the phone off right away to stop water damaging the inside of it. If it was off when it got wet, just leave it off .You mustn’t turn it on to see if it’s working. Of course, you’re eager to do so, but turning it on at this point is the worst thing you could do.
Now, dry the outside of the phone and gently shake the phone, so that any water inside has a chance to come out.
After that, you need to dry out the inside of the phone. Put the phone in a plastic box or a plastic bag with some uncooked rice in it. Close the box or the bag so that air can’t get in, and leave it there for two days. Be patient and never open the box or the bag.
When it’s time to take it out, try turning it on. You might be lucky and find the phone is working well. Good luck!

In 1997, Lottie Williams was walking through a park in Oklahoma, in the US, with her friends. Suddenly something tapped
her on the shoulder and fell to the ground. She picked the object up. It was about as h 1 as an empty soda can. Later scientists told her it was a piece of a Delta H rocket that had been used to launch a satellite.
Many countries around the world have sent satellites into space. We need satellites to send and r 2 TV and radio signals, to report the weather and for many other things. But when they become old or they break down or we don’t need them anymore, we just leave them there. They become space junk.
Scientists think there are about 16,000 objects l 3 than 10 centimeters wide flying around the Earth, and tens of millions of smaller objects too.
No,we aren't.
(2)What makes people feel lonely? The feeling of being disconnected.
(3)The relationships between the famous people and us aren't two﹣way, are they? No,they aren't.
(4)Why do parents tell children stories about the relatives?
Because they want their children to know their latest activities and interests. (5)How can we keep connected with our relatives? By using technology.
(6)What do you think of keeping connected with your relatives? How do you connect with them?
It's important to keep connected with our relatives.I usually keep connected with our relatives
by using smartphone.
【分析】本文主要讲述了我们应该和我们的亲属保持联系的事情。
【解答】(1)No,we aren't.细节判断题。根据Many kids today know little of the lives of their relatives and don't care deeply about them.可知现在很多孩子对亲人的生活知之甚少,对他们的关心也不深。因此我们现在已经不经常和亲戚联系了。故答案为:No,we aren't。 (2)The feeling of being disconnected.细节理解题。根据 Whether we realize it or not,the feeling of being disconnected makes people feel lonely.可知不管我们意识到与否,被孤立的感觉会让人感到孤独。故答案为:The feeling of being disconnected。
(3)No,they aren't.细节判断题。根据People cried when Mei Yanfang died in 2003.It's natural and in most ways harmless to feel that way,but that's unhealthy, because the relationships aren't two﹣way(相互的).可知2003年梅艳芳去世时,人们哭了。这种感觉是自然的,在大多数情况下都是无害的,但这是不健康的,因为这种关系不是双向的。故答案为:No,they aren't。 (4)Because they want their children to know their latest activities and interests.细节理解题。根据Parents can help by telling their children stories about their grandparents, aunts and cousins so that children can know their latest activities and interests.可知父母可以帮助他们的孩子讲述他们的祖父母,阿姨和堂兄弟姐妹的故事,这样孩子们就可以知道他们最近的活动和兴趣。故答案为:Because they want their children to know their latest activities and interests。

(注意: 1. 先将你选择的一条感悟抄写在答题纸的横线上。)
【参考答案】
Don't judge people by their looks
As an old saying goes, don’t judge a book by its cover. I didn’t recognize the true meaning of it until last year. In my neighborhood came a man with a scary face. The first several times I came across him, I always ran away quickly, with hands covering my eyes. Later, I knew from my parents that he made a lot of effort to keep our neighborhood clean as a volunteer, which provides a better living environment for us. Realizing the mistake I made, I went to say sorry to him. And I really appreciated him for helping me learn that a person’s internal beauty is always the most valuable part instead of his appearance. 【详解】
