Lei Feng, a communist born in 1940, has devoted all his life to helping others and he is highly respected by Chinese.To cultivate his spirit, Chinese set a memorial day to commemorate his nobel behavior. Lei’s behavior can be called altruism. Here we will give a definition of altruism. Firstly, this essay will make a general overview of altruism. Subsequently it will point out the advantages and disadvantages of altruism. Finally, it will raise some recommendations of altruism.
Altruism means helping, willness, no reward and the possibility of loss. An altruist wolud put others’ happiness in the first priority and try his best to help others. Willness means the good behavior is not focible and complusive. During the process of helping, altruists may lose money, time, energy even lives. Let me take an example, more than 10 students of Changjiang University dived into Changjiang river to help the drawn children. They attached great importance to others’ life and sacrifice their own interests. Unfortunately, three of them died because of the rapid flowing river. Comparing to altruists’ own lives, the intersets of others are listed in the first prior place .
With altruistic deeds in our society, a harmonious and happy life can be gained. Friendness can be expressed by altruists who guides the way for strangers, help the old up and calls 120 for the injuried and so on. Hopeless feeling won’t be around because of altruism. But altruism means that one pays and he may get nothing. Altruists can’t insure their own interests. There exists no promise or item that altruists should get reward and altruism itself does not require gain.
The problem is that altruism may cause loss, so altitude towards altruism should be adjusted. Considering the beneficial influence brought by altruists, governments can present the idea that altruists should be rewarded and take some effective actions, which not only insures the interests of altruists, but also encourages the altruistice behavior. As for individuality, respect should be shown for the altruists and the willness to help others should be improved. As a virtue, altruism should be inherited by everyone.
A harmonious society needs devotion. Everyone is combined inseparate ly into one community and our soociety needs altruism. Only altruuism is accepted by most of us can a happy life be achieved.
