With the deepening of reform and opening-up of our country, many people dream of going abroad for further study. They insist that there are more modern research facilities, world famous professors and excellent environment in some foreign colleges and universities, which lay a perfect foundation for their future development. However, there are still many people who favor studying at home. They argue that, for one thing, studying abroad is too expensive and therefore doesn’t pay off. For another, there are no language and cultural barriers if they study in our country.
Just as the old saying goes, “Every advantage has its disadvantage,” so I believe both opinions are acceptable in some sense. If students have the chances and financial resources, they should seize the opportunity to go abroad and broaden their eyes. On the other hand, if conditions don’t permit, they can pursue their studies at top universities in our country. What counts is not the place where they study, but what they can learn.
College life
You may feel that college life is boring. We do not know how to deal with the plenty of spare time. But I think the college life will become wonderful as long as you make it meaningful.
In your spare time, you could play basketball, football and so on. Doing sports is very interesting and good for your health.
In fact, you can do anything which you are interested in. Do not be nervous. We are friends.
Studying in college is a brand new start of our life. You can continue to study hard for the better scrods. Library is a good place for students to study in. If you want to show your talents and skills you can join in all kinds of activities. In a word, college life is wonderful!

A real test in my life
When I was a ten-year-old girl, I was once asked to deliver a speech titled” A real Test in My Life”. to talk before the whole class! Just imagine! That will be a “real test to me, then so terribly shy as to tremble at the mere thought of uttering any word with so many eyes set upon me.
I had no other choice, though. First was to draft the speech. This just a piece of cake to me; I was a good writer----something to pride myself in. the hard part lied with my oral presentation; to read from the paper was not allowed; I had to give the speech from my memory and in front of such a big audience! A real trial began when I stood on the platform, my mind blank and my legs trembling. Somewhere from that corner came some giggling or what. My eyes became dim and I vaguely sensed some cool dripping down my face. How much time had passed by, I didn’t know. My audiences were still waiting, patiently and without signs of rushing me. Gradually found myself back, stammering out my speech. Finally I finished. After what seemed to be a hundred years, I found my audience applauding. I made it!
From then on, my fear for talking before an audience disappeared. Actually with my confidence building up, I now turn to be a great speaker. Looking back, I know the greatest obstacle on our way to success is our fear; overcome it and let our potential out, and we will make to our goals

Over the past years, floods, droughts, landslides, and dust-storms have frequented our planet, the only habitat of human beings. Several days ago, tsunami(海啸) has swept the Southeast Asia, which has caused enormous damage. All these have sounded an alarm to human beings.
The destruction which is caused by human beings has aroused people’s concern all over the world. If we pay no heed to the present destructive human activities, our planet will become of tomb instead of cozy home. What’s more, we should realize that only from our planet can we obtain our sheltering, food, cloth and so forth.
Counter-measures must be taken to curb the destruction caused by human beings. Most importantly, laws must be established to punish those who are involved in destructive conducts.

Honesty
When it comes to honesty, quite a lot of people believe it is essential to a person’s character and success. They base their idea on the following reasons: on one hand, successful business owes much to mutual trust; on another hand, great people in history such as Abraham Lincoln and Genet Washington set us good examples of being honest, they are great because they are honest.
But some people think differently. They believe honesty is becoming out of date. Their reasons run as following: to begin with, cheating on exams is becoming more and more popular; in addition, some singers and movie stars cheat on taxes; last but not the least, if you are not careful enough, you’ll buy some defective goods and fake products.
It is high time we emphasized and encouraged honesty. We can take effective measures to restore it. For example, kids should be taught to tell truth, strict rules and regulations should be carried out to stop cheatings on exams and taxes, etc.
Should CET-4(6) Be Abandoned?
There has been a heated discussion about whether to keep the College English Test Band 4(6) in the universities. Some people argue that the test has become an obstacle to the teaching of English on campuses, while others maintain that the advantages of the test outweigh its disadvantages.
As far as the first group of people is concerned, they give the following arguments. For one thing, many students spend most of their time preparing for the test; therefore their focus is not on learning English better but on getting a high mark. For another, many teachers don’t concentrate on how to improve the students’ abilities. They only care how many of their students can pass the test.
However, there are many people who believe the test should stay. To begin with, the test is the most effective way to measure how well the students have learned English. What’s more, we can come up with some ways to lessen the negative effect. As far as I am concerned, each side is right in a certain way. We have to keep the test so students will have better motivation to learn English. However, we can’t attach too much importance to the scores of the test. After all, it is just a test, isn’t it?
My view on traffic accidents
In recent years, a lot of news about people injured or killed by cars on roads can be heard or seen, which shows us that traffic accidents have been increasing.
But why are there so many such magic events? Is it just because more cars are running on the roads with the development of economy, or because the road conditions can＇t meet the requirement of cars? I think maybe that＇s only one part of the reason. The safety awareness seems much more important in the cause of road
accidents. As we all know, quite a lot of traffic accidents are due to the drivers who drive cars after drinking. Drunk drivers＇ mind is vague, and they can＇t control themselves and the car well, so they can easily spoil other＇s happiness out of consciousness.
Having realized the main reason and sad effect of the car accidents, we can find some ways to avoid or decrease the accidents. In addition to the improvement of traffic conditions, people must beobliged to obey the traffic rules. Everyone should understand the meaning of life and be careful when driving.
How Can Laid-off Workers Find New Jobs?
The market economy has brought China both benefits and headaches, one of which is the problem of finding new jobs for laid-off workers. There is no denying that serious social problems will arise unless this problem is properly solved. As a result, it is essential to explore ways to get laid-off workers back to work.
Serious as the problem seems, we can find some solutions to it. To begin with, priority should be given to the expansion of tertiary industry(第三产业) because tertiary industry can create a great number of positions with few restrictions on age, education, skill, etc. Also, little capital is needed to set up enterprises in this field. In addition, the laid-off workers have to update their skills to meet the demands of the society, just as the old saying goes, “God helps those who help themselves.” Last but not least, they should stop relying on the state and throw away any worries about their “face” while doing “low” jobs such as washing dishes at restaurants or sending newspapers to households. Once the habit of dependency is cracked, then the country can make other policy changes aimed at improving their living standards.
