Our clothes are a powerful tool that can make us feel better about ourselves. One way 48 which this works is by wearing different colors of clothes.
Normally when we are sad, we will wear dark colored clothes. Oppositely, when we are happy, we often choose to wear 49 colored clothes. The reason for this is that our choice of color mirrors how we are feeling.
50 who don‟t believe in the idea are often heard saying, “if only this truly worked”. Well in reply to those people, there has been a lot of research into what happens to someone‟s feelings, when they are asked to wear just one color of clothes. It has been proven that 51 we wear particular colors of clothes they can change our feelings.
Suppose we are feeling sad, if we wear black we may begin to feel 52 . However, if we wear Green, Red 53 Yellow we may begin to feel better.

As the holiday season approaches, students are searching for stores that can best fill their gift-giving needs. Luckily, retailers (零售商)within the Urbana-Champaign area have planned and prepared for the inevitable(必然的)December rush.
Best Buy, located at 2117 N. Prospect Ave. in Champaign, has taken steps to ensure customers to have a good shopping experience. “We start our preparations back in September by looking at our staffing needs and hiring people for the holiday season,” said Bill Mauzy, the store‟s general manager. “We start in September so we have plenty of time to train our folks on how to give the best customer service.”
Best Buy stores have already increased the number of hours they are open, and eventually will be serving customers from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. during the busiest parts of the holiday shopping season.
“We have a lot of college students that work for us, and we have gained a lot of help from their knowledge and their insights and I think it makes us a good fit for students shopping,” Mauzy said.
Target, located at 2102 N. Prospect Ave. in Champaign, is another student favorite for holiday shopping. “First, we definitely have great prices and secondly, we are in stock with the hot items that people are looking for this holiday season,” said Steve Linders, spokesperson for Target.
Target stores plan on extending hours of operation during the holiday season and have hired about 60 to 70 seasonal employees per store to accommodate for the increased number of shoppers.
Target is offering reasonably priced gifts, said Linders, such as the T-Mobile Nokia 6010 phone for under $50 and other items, like vintage board games, for under $25.
Other stores have got into the holiday spirit; shoppers at Macy‟s may notice an abundance of red and other decorations symbolizing the store‟s theme, “Believe” . Rhonda Lash, general manager of Macy‟s at Market Place Mall, said the theme represents “the spirit of the holiday and all good that comes from that.” She also said students may be attracted to the „Friends and Family‟ event on December 10 to 15. During that event, shoppers can use a free shopping pass that allows them to receive 20 percent off of items in the store.
No matter where students shop during this holiday season, they are sure to be welcomed by stores well-prepared for their needs.

A collection of dresses worn by film star Audrey Hepburn fetched about 268, 000 pounds ($437, 800) at auction (拍卖), more than double the pre-sale estimate, organizers said on Wednesday.
More than 40 items from her wardrobe, including dresses worn in her films, were auctioned in London in a sale described by organizers as “the like of which will never be seen again.”
The highest price, 60, 000 pounds, was paid for a Chantilly lace cocktail gown (礼服) by Givenchy which Hepburn wore in “How to Steal a Million” in 1966 — against an estimate of 15, 000 to 20, 000 pounds.
Givenchy was the designer most closely linked with Hepburn. But also up for auction was the ivory satin bridal gown designed by the Fontana Sisters for her planned marriage to James (later Lord) Hanson, which was sold for 13, 800 pounds. Hepburn later called off the wedding.
Hepburn, who won an Oscar for her first starring role as a runaway princess in “Roman Holiday,” is also known for roles as different as cockney Eliza in “My Fair Lady” and a terrorized blind woman in “Wait Until Dark.”

PART FOUR: WRITING SECTION A
Directions: Read the following passage. Fill in the numbered blanks by using the information from the passage. Write NO MORE THAN THREE WORDS for each answer.
One Swedish study published last year found a link between long-term use of the older analog cell-phones (模拟手机) and brain cancer; research in rats has shown a link between cell-phone radiation and potentially cancer-causing DNA damage.
The largest study to date, published last February in the Journal of the national Cancer Institute, surveyed 420,000 cell-phone users from 1992 and 2005 and concluded there was no evidence of a brain-cancer link. Two smaller studies, published last December in the Journal of the American medical Association and the New England Journal of Medicine, came to similar conclusions.
Cancer experts feel that cell-phones are safe for short-term use cell-phones, but note that more long-term research is needed. “Studies show that using cell-phones for ten or fifteen years doesn‟t seem to increase brain cancer risk, but we don‟t have any research that goes beyond that,” says Gansler. He points out that the analog phones in the Swedish study emit (放射) much more radiation than today‟s digital ones. And as for laboratory studies, “Results are much more different in a test tube or a rat than they are in humans,” he adds. But other experts are more cautious. Brain tumors grow slowly and may not be detected for more than a decade,” warns Henry Lai, PhD., professor of bioengineering at the University of Washington, in Seattle.
20/30-year studies are available to demonstrate cell-phone safety, so take some precautions. Start with a hands-free headset, which may minimize exposure to radiation. Keep your phone away from your body when you‟re not using it. Joshua Muscat, PhD., doctor of the American Health Foundation in Valhalla, New York, also recommends using the newer digital phones, which have less radiation than analog. Don‟t use it when signal strength is poor, since that means the phone has to work harder, causing it to emit more radiation. And keep your kids off cell-phones, since researchers don‟t know how radiation affects a developing brain. As for devices that claim to protect against radiation, “There‟s no evidence that they work,” says Muscat.

SECTION B
Directions: Read the following passage. Answer the questions according to the information given in the passage and the required words limit. Write your answers on your answer sheet.
We live in an expensive city. The increments (增加量) of salary rises of the public have not been able to catch up with our inflation (通货膨胀) rate, especially in the property market (房地产市场).
Land prices recently soared to highs of more than HK$4,000 per square foot. That is an shocking price for most low income families who are still struggling to make ends meet. With poor incomes, it is very unlikely that they can afford to buy a decent home.
Financial Secretary John Tsang Chun-wah‟s budget report said that the government was proposing many different channels to help the needy in our community to buy properties.
英语试题第12页 共13页
Unfortunately, I am not convinced and have not seen any significant and substantial measures that could achieve this claim.
The government should review its high-land-price policy. It is vital to find a suitable method to control the overheated real property market. It is a shame that the local land developers are receiving huge profits regardless of the welfare of the majority public. Even though my family has a secure home in Cheung Chau, I too want to buy a city property for me or my family in the future. But if property prices remain sky-high, my dream to buy any property will be out of reach in the near future.
I believe that there are a lot of people facing the same dilemma. Because of the
high-land-price policy, many cannot afford to buy a home, even for those middle classes who catch the train, they are still carrying a heavy mortgage (抵押).
If the government maintains the present policy which favors the developers, this housing problem will remain.
