一、课程的性质和目的
《大学英语》是以英语语言知识与应用技能、学习策略和跨文化交际为主要内容，以外语教学理论为指导，并集多种教学模式和教学手段为一体的教学体系。其教学目的是培养学生具有较强的英语综合应用能力，使他们能用英语有效地进行口头和书面的信息交流，同时增强自主学习能力和综合文化素养，以适应今后工作、进一步学习和进行国际交流的需要。
学生在完成《大学英语2》阶段的学习之后，已经适应大学英语的教学模式和要求，并学会独立学习。到《大学英语2》学习结束时，学生在读、写、译等方面应能够达到大学英语二级水平。

三、课程基本要求
本课程在加强英语语言基础知识和基本技能训练的同时，重视培养学生实际使用英语进行交际的能力。通过本课程的学习，学生应该达到下列要求：
1、听力理解能力：能基本听懂英语国家人士的谈话和讲座，能基本听懂题材熟悉、篇幅较长的国内英语广播或电视节目，语速为每分钟150词左右，能掌握其中心大意，抓住要点和相关细节。
2、口语表达能力：能够和英语国家的人士进行比较流利的会话，较好地掌握会话策略，能基本表达个人意见、情感、观点等，能基本陈述事实、事件、理
由等，表达思想清楚，语音、语调基本正确。
3、阅读理解能力： 能基本读懂英语国家大众性报刊杂志的一般性题材的文章，阅读速度为每分钟70词。在快速阅读篇幅较长的材料时，阅读速度达到每分钟110词。能就阅读材料进行略读或寻读。并能正确理解中心大意，抓住主要事实和有关细节。
4、书面表达能力：能就一般性的主题基本表达个人观点。能描述各种图表，能在半小时内写120词左右的短文，内容完整，条理清楚，文理通顺。
5、翻译能力： 能借助词典翻译一般英语国家报刊上题材熟悉的文章，能摘译一般的英语科普文章。译文基本通顺、达意，无重大理解和语言错误。
6、推荐词汇量：掌握的词汇量应达到3800个单词和1200个词组（包括中学和一般要求应该掌握的词汇），其中2200个单词（包括一般要求应该掌握的积极词汇）为积极词汇。
四、本课程与其它有关课程的关系
《大学英语2》是一门必修基础课，它与其它的课程学习有着紧密地联系，英语读写能力的提高和听说能力的提高相辅相成。
1、《21世纪大学英语（读写教程第二册）》每个单元由同一题材的三篇文章组成。课文A为精读材料，配有阅读理解、词汇、结构、翻译、写作等多种练习；课文B、C为泛读材料。课文前系统介绍各种基本阅读技能，课文后配有阅读理解练习题。《21世纪大学英语（读写教程第二册）》把精读、泛读融为一体，使听、说、读、写、译五种技能的训练和培养围绕着精读课文进行，重点培养读、写、译的语言能力。
2、《21世纪大学新英语（视听说教程第二册）》与《21世纪大学英语（读写教程第二册）》紧密结合，以功能意念训练贯穿始终，采用了视、听、说相结合的方法，充分利用现代化教学手段，旨在全面提高学生的听说能力。
3、《21世纪大学英语（读写教程第二册）》与《21世纪大学新英语（视听说教程第二册）》分工不同且各有侧重点，但相互间又紧密配合，形成一个有机的整体，以实现大纲规定的大学英语教学的目的，即：“培养学生具有较强的阅读能力，一定的听、说、写、译能力，使他们能以英语为工具交流信息。”

七、成绩考核方式
本课程考试采用期末笔试和平时成绩相结合的手段，题型以大学英语四六级考试题型为参考，内容涵盖基础知识和能力的测试。期末卷面成绩70%，平时成绩30%。
